Four Suit Transfers

Similar to Jacoby Transfers, Four suit transfers allow the responder to a 1NT opening bid to transfer into the minor suits as well.  After 1NT:

2      - transfer to hearts

2      - transfer to spades

Then 4 suit transfers may take one of the 2 following forms:

(A)

2NT   - transfer to clubs

3      - transfer to diamonds

(B)

2      - transfer to clubs

2NT   - transfer to diamonds

In (B) the space between the transfer and the suit is used for the opener to pre-accept (sometimes called super-accept).   Pre-acceptance shows excellent support for the minor being transfered to.  For example:

1NT - 2  - 2NT: Shows good club support

1NT - 2NT - 3 : Shows good diamond support

In both (A) and (B) since 2NT is a transfer of some type, Stayman must be employed on all invitational hands whether a major suit is held or not.
