Exclusion

A bid which shows shortness in the bid suit, for a variety of reasons.  For example some pairs might play Exclusion vs Big 1 opening:

1  -  X     :  Short clubs, support all others

1  -  1   :  Short diamonds, support all others

1  -  1   :  Short hearts, support all others

1  -  1   :  Short spades, support all others

1  -  1NT:  single suited hands

1  -  2     :  2 level might be 2 suited hands

                     ala DONT style or similar
