Trump Promotion

Occurs when declarer is forced to ruff high in front of a defenders card to prevent an over ruff, and, in the process the defenders trump is "promoted" to winning rank. For example, with declarer South in a spade contract:

East leads a heart. If South ruffs with the 9 West over ruffs with the Ten. So South ruffs with the King and the Ten is "promoted" to winning rank.
