Walsh Transfer Structure



An extension of Jacoby Transfers, and including Walsh Relay's in which, after partners 1NT opening bid:


2     : Stayman but does not promise a major

           suit.  If followed by 2NT is the only way

           to invite 3NT (see below)

2     : transfer to Hearts, opener may pre-accept

           with 2 only as may be the

           start of a Walsh Relay in which case

           responder bids at the 3 level

2     : transfer to Spades, opener may pre-accept

           with 2NT  shows small xx in hearts

                   3    shows small xx in clubs

                   3    shows small xx in diamonds

                   3    all other pre-accepts


2     : transfer to clubs, opener may show

           a club honor by bidding 2NT

2NT  : transfer to diamonds, opener may show

           a diamond honor by bidding 3



After 1NT- 2 - 2  :


2     : 5 Hearts 4 Spades invitational

2     : 5 Spades 4 Hearts invitational

2NT  : invitational to 3NT

3     : 5 clubs, 4 major, forcing

3     : 5 diamonds, 4 major, forcing

3     : 5 spades, 4 hearts, forcing

3     : 5 hearts, 4 spades, forcing

3NT  : to play

4     : 5-5 majors game only strength


After 1NT - 2 - 2 major


2     : invitational with spades

2NT   : invitational with hearts

3     : agrees major, slamish

3     : agrees major, slamish

4     : Gerber

4 other major:  Key Card Blackwood with

                         Kings of both majors counting

                         as a Key Card.
