Gerber

A bid of 4 over a NT opening, which asks opener for the quantity of aces.    The responses to  1NT - 4   being:

4      - 0 or 4 Aces

4     - 1 Ace

4     - 2 Aces

4NT  - 3 Aces

If playing the Sliding version, the bid of the next suit asks for Kings.  The Standard version, 5 would ask for Kings.  In either version 4NT by the 4  bidder is natural and to play.

To avoid confusion many pairs play 4  as Gerber only directly over a 1NT or 2NT opening.  Others might play it as any jump to 4 in a NT sequence, for example  1NT  -  2  -  2  -  4   as Gerber
